Frequently Asked Questions:

“I’m an adult. Do you do ADHD evaluations for adults or do you only see kids?”

We conduct ADHD evaluations for clients aged 5 and up. We are happy to work with adults who are seeking an evaluation.

“Do you take my health insurance?”

We gladly accept Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, and United Healthcare health insurance plans. For prospective clients who have insurance other than those, we are happy to work out a private pay arrangement with you. We have several options in that regard to help make the process as affordable as possible.

“How long is all of this going to take?”

The full diagnostic process involves two in-person visits to the clinic, around one week apart. During the first visit, we gather all of the diagnostic information. During the second visit, we present your diagnostic report and go over all of the details.

“What does the diagnostic process include?”

During your in-clinic diagnostic appointment, we will conduct a 45-minute diagnostic interview. You will take two standardized ADHD assessments (including a Continuous Performance Test) on a computer in our testing room. We will collect outside assessments from two adults who know you well enough to answer questions about your symptoms. For your follow-up appointment about a week after your diagnostic appointment, you’ll participate in a 55-minute feedback session to help you understand any diagnostic information contained in your report. After your follow-up visit, we will upload your 10-12 page diagnostic report into your profile in TherapyAppointment for you to have. If you want, we can also fax your diagnostic report to your primary care provider.

“How much is this going to cost me?”

The typical out-of-pocket expense for a full evaluation is the co-pay for the initial diagnostic appointment and the one-week follow-up appointment. However, we will always confirm your specific out-of-pocket expense with your health insurance plan before your first visit so you will know the exact amount.

“Can you manage and prescribe my medication?”

Dr. Willis is a Licensed Professional Counselor (AL#2454). Crystal Odom and Frank Patrick are Associate Licensed Counselors practicing under the direct supervision of Dr. Willis. Anna Hamilton, Lauren Jones, Samantha Gaddis, Mason Freeman, and Kam Doughty are interns who volunteer in our clinic; They are students in a master’s degree program in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.

Our clinic does not provide medication or medical treatment. Clients who are diagnosed with ADHD will be referred back to their pediatrician or primary care provider to discuss medication options, if desired. However, if a client does not have a primary care provider, we have developed a strong referral list and are happy to refer our clients to a primary care provider.

“Why do you want to send an ADHD assessment out to two other adults in my life?”

We ask the legal guardian for every minor client to identify the name of one parent and one teacher to whom we can send an ADHD assessment. For adult clients, we ask that you identify the name of two adults who know you well enough to answer a few questions about your ADHD symptoms. We do this in order to collect a matrix of data from multiple sources about your symptoms. Diagnostic work is complicated and the ability to collect enough information is crucial to the process. We appreciate your understanding.

“Is there any additional information I could provide to you that would help the diagnostic process?”

Adult clients will be asked to complete a couple of forms where they provide examples of possible ADHD behavior in their past. Completing those forms thoroughly is quite helpful to our process. We do not require items such as elementary school report cards, but if clients have access to some of those items, that would be helpful and they are welcomed to bring those items with them to the initial diagnostic appointment.
